The diorama of Spider-Man vs Venom dates back to 2006 and represents a nice collectible item, very attractive for all lovers of the Sideshow line of Marvel dioramas and, more in general, for all fans. The statue is sculpted by Martin Canale and is probably the tiniest one of its category. In fact, the piece has a size of 15 x 21 cm, a height of only 23 cm and an overall weight of 1.8 kg. Sideshow produced a regular version with an edition size of 1250 pieces and only 300 copies of an exclusive variant, where the head of Venom partially depicts the face of his original alter-ego, Eddie Brock. The scene shows our friendly neighborhood Spidey resting on the shoulders of the enemy and intent, with both legs and arms, to keep away the long powerful claws of the symbiote. Venom is depicted half-length on a sort of cylindrical in masonry base (which acts as the base of the whole piece), with the typical wide open mouth and its long tongue wrapped around the arm of Parker. The slender and powerful physique of Spider-Man is highlighted by a particular and very dynamic pose: the left leg is fully elongated to block the big hand of the opponent by the foot, while the left arm is stretched backwards to oppose the other threatening hand of the rival. All muscles are tense and well defined by a exemplary sculpt. The dynamism of the whole figure allows to appreciate the mighty body of Venom, characterized by oversized arms and a broad chest, where the typical and giant white spider stands out. Note the characteristic fibrous appearance of the symbiote, here masterfully sculpted and pointed out by purple filaments on the black costume. The coloring is excellent: the red and blue tones used for the Spidey costume are very faithful to the original Comics and the web is painted to perfection, in spite of the small size of the figure. The two faces are very nice too; in particular, note the face of Venom with the irregular contours of the eyes, the monstrous teeth and the perfect tongue, truly well finished in shape and size. In my opinion, this is the only case in which the exclusive version somehow riduces the aesthetic impact of the statue, since figuratively speaking the face is a very important feature of Venom and the choice to replace it (although partially) with the human lineaments of Brock does not seem a smart choice. In any case, this piece represents a true classic of Marvel Universe and, due to its undeniable charm, it certainly deserves a place in any top-level collection.
